Sonja Raymond has her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Special Education birth-21 years andher Master’s degree in Special Education. For 14 years she worked in the public school system as a special educator, 7 years at an elementary school in Randolph, VT and 7 years at the middle and high school in Stowe, Vt.
In June of 2000 she bought Apple Tree Learning Centers in Stowe. This child care, preschool and school-age center was a great change. Sonja quickly found out that early education is where it’s at if you want to get the biggest bang for your buck. Apple Tree became NAEYC Accredited in April of 2007 and Sonja became the Vermont Association for the Education of Young Children’s Accreditation Coordinator.
In 2011 the VTAEYC board decided to start a center-based mentoring program (The Quality Improvement Project), which assists programs through the STARS process and/or NAEYC Accreditation. Sonja started mentoring for that project and soon became the Coordinator of the project while continuing to own and operate her center throughout.
In November of 2015, Sonja accepted the position of Executive Director for VTAEYC. She stepped down as director of her center but remains the owner working at Apple Tree 2 days a week.
